Veteran India cricketer and Team India’s ODI captain, Rohit Sharma recently opened up on his family’s reaction after his retirement from Test cricket. It is to be noted that midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rohit Sharma put down curtains to his Test career. Soon after his decision, in just a span of six days, another star batter, Virat Kohli announced retirement from Test cricket, bringing down his illustrous career.

“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” Rohit Sharma wrote on his Instagram story. While his decision overshowed the premier T20 tournament that day, the 38-year-old recently disclosed his family members' reaction on the same.

Rohit Sharma’s shocking revelation after his Test retirement

Speaking at the book launch of Cheteshwar Pujara’s wife Pooja, Rohit Sharma revealed the reaction of his father, Gurunath Sharma after the veteran called quits from the longest format. He revealed that his father was a bit disappointed on the decision, while adding that he has been a big fan of Test cricket.

“My father has seen me playing a lot of cricket with red ball, obviously. So he appreciates red ball cricket a lot. And then, obviously, he was a little disappointed when I announced my retirement. But was happy as well at the same time. But, yeah, that's my father. And he has obviously played a huge role in wherever I am today. Without their help, it never would have been possible,” Rohit said.

The 38-year-old, who led India to two ICC titles in just a span of nine months, retired from Test cricket after having played 67 matches and amassing 4301 runs at an average of 40.57. He recently featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Mumbai Indians (MI), where he accumulated 418 runs in 15 innings at an average of 29.85, second highest after Suryakumar Yadav (717).
