The world was in shock after US Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling and eliminate the constitutional right to abortion. This judgement has caused a lot of trouble for the female population of the country as it takes away basic rights about their own bodies.

Addressing this ruling, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert issued a joint statement about the issue. Their statement said, “The NBA and WNBA believe that women should be able to make their own decisions concerning their health and future, and we believe that freedom should be protected. We will continue to advocate for gender and health equity, including ensuring our employees have access to reproductive health care, regardless of their location,” read the statement.

Absolutely about power & control: LeBron James

Similarly, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James had also replied to a tweet regarding the issue that said, “If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control and he retweeted a couple of posts about the effect of the decision on Black women.” His response said, “It’s ABSOLUTELY ABOUT POWER & CONTROL!!”

Today is a very sad day for our country: Coco Gauff

2022 French Open runner-up Coco Gauff also voiced her thoughts about the issue and said, "Incredibly disappointed by the decision made today. The sad part is this will not stop abortions from happening ... this will only increase illegal and unsafe abortions. Today is a very sad day for our country and I cannot believe once again history is repeating itself."
