Star Indian athlete and two-time Olympic medallist, Neeraj Chopra is all set to return to competitive action. The India javelin thrower, who earlier confirmed to feature in the Ostrava Golden Spike event in Czech Republic next month, will be seen in action later this month at the ORLEN Janusz Kusociński Memorial event, set to be held on May 23 in Poland.
The decision by the star athlete comes after he announced the postponement of the inaugural edition of Neeraj Chopra Classic due to the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Kashmir valley. The event, which was said to be first of it kind in India, was scheduled to be held on May 24 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile the NC Classic remains postponed indefinitely, the 27-year-old will feature in Poland event. He will face strong competition in Chorzow, including two-time world champions Anderson Peters from Grenada, Germany’s Julian Weber and Polish national record holder Marcin Krukowski. The event will mark Chopra’s third competition of the season.
Neeraj Chopra conferred honorary Lieutenant Colonel rank in Territorial Army
While he continues to feature in world events across the globe, on Wednesday, May 14, Neeraj Chopra was conferred honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army. The appointment, according to The Gazette of India, a weekly public journal and an authorised legal document of the Government of India, came into effect on April 16.
“No 3 (E) dated 9th May 2025 in exercise of the powers conferred by Para -31 of the Territorial Army Regulations, 1948, the president is pleased to confer on Ex- Sub Maj Neeraj Chopra, PVSM, Padma Shri, VSM, Village & Post Office Khandra, Panipat, Haryana with effect from 16 April, 2025,” a statement from Major General GS Choudhry, Joint Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, read.
