Seven-time Olympic champion Allyson Felix announced about her retirement plans later on Wednesday. The legend who is hailed as one of the most decorated athlete in track and field history is all set to hang her boots at the end of this season.

Felix took to Instagram to announce her decision. She shared a post expressing gratitude towards the sport and the people who helped her shape her career.

“As a little girl they called chicken legs, never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined I’d have a career like this. I have so much gratitude for this sport that has changed my life. I have given everything I have to running and for the first time I’m not sure if I have anything left to give. I want to say goodbye and thank you to the sport and people who have helped shape me the only way I know how - with one last run.”

As she ends her career, she aims to run one final race as she confirmed while announcing this news.

“This season isn’t about the time on the clock, it’s simply about joy. If you see me on track this year I hope to share a moment, a memory and my appreciation with you”, she added.

The 36-year-old has competed at five Olympic editions from Athens 2004 to Tokyo 2020. She bids adieu to the sport with overall 11 medals in hand.
