Indian Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra recently replied to a fan's query where he asked the legendary shooter the reason for his retirement after the 2016 Rio Olympics. Abhinav Bindra created history during the 2008 Olympic Games as he became the first-ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics in an individual competition.
Abhinav Bindra also won the gold medal in the men's 10-meter air rifle event at the 2006 ISSF World Shooting Championships. Apart from this, Bindra bagged four gold medals in four Commonwealth Games editions from 2002 to 2014.
A fan commented on Abhinav Bindra's throwback video from his 2008 Olympics' gold-winning attempt, "Why he retired too early is something he will answer someday to his fans.."
The Indian shooting icon said, "1.) Recognised my fading skills 2). Failed in two successive Games 3). Was the appropriate time to give my spot to a younger athlete and talent ! ( did not just want to hold on to it )."
Abhinav Bindra finished the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on 16th position, however, he managed to win a gold in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and was expected to bag a medal in the 2016 Olympics but came fourth in the men's 10-meter air rifle event.
