Australia registered a dominant win over India by 209 runs at the Oval on June 11, 2023 to lifft their World Test Championship title. India, who made into the WTC final for the second consecutive time, finished as the runners-up again after 2021, while Australia clinched the title in their first appearance in the final. Travis Head turned out to be the match-winner with his knock of 163(174) runs.

Talking about the match, coming to bat first after losing the toss, Australia posted 469 runs in their first innings. Travis Head was top scorer with 163 runs off 174 balls hitting 25 fours and a six, while Steve Smith contributed with 121(268) runs hitting 19 boundaries. Apart from that, David Warner also scored 43(60) runs while Alex Carey contributed with 48(69) runs. For India, Mohammed Siraj took four wickets, Shardul Thakkur and Mohammed Shami scalped two wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja put one in his bag.

Ajinkya Rahane’s efforts went vain as Australia clinched WTC 2021-23 title

In reply to Australia’s 469 runs, India were bowled out for 296 runs in the first innings trailing by 173 runs. After the failure of the top order, Ajinkya Rahane took charge of the innings and scored a fighting 89 runs off 129 balls hitting 11 fours and a six. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with 48(51) runs while Shardul Thakur scored 51(109) runs hitting six boundaries. For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins took three wickets, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green and Scott Boland scalped two while Nathan Lyon put one in his bag.

In the second innings, Australia declared after scoring 270 runs for the loss of eight wickets with Alex Carey top scoring with 66(105) runs hitting right boundaries giving India a target of 444 runs to win. In reply, India were bowled out for 234 runs on day five as Australia registered a massive 209-run win. Nathan Lyon ended up taking four wickets, Scott Boland took three wickets, while Mitchell Starc scalped two and Pat Cummins put one in his bag.
