Chennai Super Kings went on to win their second consecutive IPL title after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in the final at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 28, 2011. MS Dhoni and his men dominated the strong Bengaluru side and defeated them in a one-sided final at Chepauk and became the first side to win back-to-back IPL titles.

CSK were playing their second consecutive IPL final in 2011. They finished as the runners-up in the inaugural season in 2008 and lifted the title in 2010. In the final, they faced RCB who finished at the top of the points table after the end of the league. However, it turned out to be an one-sided contest where CSK defeated RCB by 58 runs to be crowned as IPL champions for the second consecutive time.

Murali Vijay smashed 95 runs as CSK defeated RCB in IPL 2011 final

Coming to bat first after winning the toss, CSK posted 205 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Murali Vijay was top scorer with 95 runs off 52 balls, hitting four fours and six sixes. Apart from that, Michael Hussey also contributed with 63(45) runs while skipper MS Dhoni scored a quickfire 22(13) runs as CSK crossed the 200-run mark. For RCB, Sreenath Aravind and Chris Gayle took two wickets each, while Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad put one in his bag.

Chasing the huge target, RCB lost their best batter of the season Chris Gayle in the very first over as Ravichandran Ashwin struck first for CSK. After that, RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals as RCB could only 147/8 in their 20 overs in reply to CSK’s 205 runs. Saurabh Tiwary top scored with 42(34) runs while Virat Kohli scored 35 off 32 balls. Apart from that, none of the other batters could stay at the crease for long. For CSK, R Ashwin took three wickets, Shadab Jakati took two while Doug Bollinger, Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo scalped a wicket each.
