Daniel Vettori, the former New Zealand captain, is celebrating his 46th birthday on January 27, 2025. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, he made his name for his slow left-arm orthodox bowling and scoring some crucial runs in the lower middle order. In his professional cricket career, Vettori took 705 wickets and scored 6989 runs in 442 international matches.
The Kiwi all-rounder made his international debut in Test cricket against England on 6th February 1997. However, he did not get the chance to bowl in the first innings, but eventually got two wickets in the second innings of Nasser Hussain and Andy Caddick. Since then he has become one of the best spin-bowling all-rounders in world cricket, taking 362 wickets and scoring 4531 runs in his Test career. With this, Vettori becomes the only eighth all-rounder to take 300 wickets and score 3000 runs in Tests.

After the amazing start of the Test career, the all-rounder also got a chance to make his ODI debut on 25th March 1997 against Sri Lanka. He played 295 ODIs for New Zealand and took 305 wickets along with scoring 2,253 runs with the bat, including four half-centuries. Moreover, in 34 T20Is, the all-rounder took 34 wickets and scored 205 runs.

For the IPL 2008, Daniel Vettori was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for INR 2.51 Crore, and he played for the franchise till 2010, taking 11 wickets in 12 matches. In IPL 2011, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for INR 2.53 Crore. He played 22 matches for the team in two seasons and took 17 wickets.
Currently, Vettoris is the assistant coach of the Australian men’s national cricket team, apart from being the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Additionally, he has also coached the Royal Challengers Bangalore during his professional coaching career.
