On February 18, 2024, the Indian cricket team registered their biggest–ever win in Test cricket in terms of runs. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, India defeated England by a mammoth margin of 434 runs in the third Test match of a five-match series at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. For India, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill shone with the bat while Ravindra Jadeja showed all-round performance as the hosts dominated England throughout the match and registered a one-sided victory.
Batting first, India were bowled out for 445 runs in the first innings with Rohit Sharma playing a captain’s knock of 131(196) runs along with Ravindra Jadeja’s 112 runs off 225 deliveries. Playing his debut Test, Sarfaraz Khan also impressed with 62(66) runs. In reply, Ben Duckett turned out to be a lone warrior with 153(151) runs as England were bowled out for 319 runs, giving India a lead of 126 runs in the first innings. For India, Mohammed Siraj took four scalps, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja scalped two wickets each and Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah scalped a wicket each.
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed second Test double ton as India registered mammoth win vs England
In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal went on to score his second double hundred in second consecutive Test match as India gave England a target of 557 runs to win. Jaiswal scored 214(236) runs while Shubman Gill fell short of his hundred by just nine runs as he got out after scoring 91(151) runs. Sarfaraz Khan also scored 68(72) runs registering his second consecutive fifty in his maiden Test. India declared their second innings on 430/4, leading by 556 runs.
Chasing the winning target, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals as Ravindra Jadeja took charge with his five-wicket haul in the second innings. The visitors were bowled out for 122 runs as India registered a record win by 434 runs. Jadeja shone with the figures of 5/41, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped a wicket each.
