
Mumbai are the most successful team in the history of the Ranji Trophy with 42 titles in front of their name. They also emerged victorious in the 2009-10 edition where they defeated Karnataka by six runs at Gangothri Glades Cricket Ground in Mysore to lift their 39th title on January 14, 2010. The previous time champions, Mumbai successfully defended their title after defeating Karnataka in a thrilling final in Mysore. Chasing a target of 338 runs, Manish Pandey shone with a hundred but couldn’t take his team down the line as Karnataka lost a close final.
Talking about the match, coming to bat first after winning the toss, Mumbai had a poor start as they lost three wickets for just 20 runs. After that, Onkar Khanvilkar and Abhishek Nayar added 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Khanvilkar got out after scoring 25(60) runs, while Nayar scored 37 off 75. After that, Vinayak Samant took charge of the innings and top scored with 67(157), hitting eight boundaries as Mumbai were bowled out for 233 runs in the first innings. For Karnataka, Vinay Kumar took four scalps, Abhimanyu Mithun took three while Sreenath Aravind and Sunil Kumar scalped a wicket each.

In reply to Mumbai’s 233 runs, Karnataka were bowled out for 130 runs as Mumbai took a lead of 103 runs in the first innings. Aavishkar Salvi shone with a five-wicket haul, while Dhawal Kulkarni took two, and Ajit Agarkar and Abhishek Nayar scalped a wicket each. After that, Dhawal Kulkarni (87 off 181) and Abhishek Nayar (50 off 139) scored half-centuries as Mumbai were bowled out for 234 run in the second innings giving Karnatak a target of 338 runs to win.
Coming to chase the winning target, Manish Pandya shone with a knock of 144(151) runs, hitting 18 fours and a maximum, while Ganesh Satish also scored 75(219) runs including nine fours. However, it wasn’t enough for Karnataka to cross the finishing line as they were bowled out for 331 runs, felling short off just six runs from the target. With this, Mumbai continued their domination in the Ranji Trophy with 39th title to their name.
