On July 21, 2023, Team India's batting maestro Virat Kohli notched up his 29th Test century in the match against West Indies, played in Port of Spain. Winning the toss, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite elected to bowl first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma gave a solid start to the team as both stitched a 139-run stand for the opening wicket. Jaiswal fell after scoring 57 and Shubman Gill, who came to bat at number three, could amass only 10 runs. Kohli after arriving at the crease witnessed the departure of Rohit and Ajnikya Rahane in quick succession. With India reeling at a score of 182/4, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja built a crucial stand of 159 runs for the fifth wicket.
Virat Kohli completed his hundred in 180 balls. In the same over, Ravindra Jadeja also brought his fifty and the innings from both batters solidified India’s position in the match. The 36-year-old concluded his knock after accumulating 121 runs off 206 balls. His inning was studded with 11 fours. Team India’s first innings ended after scoring 438 runs.

The game ended in a stalemate
Following the total, the West Indies got bundled out on 255 runs. Mohammed Siraj grabbed a fifer and played an instrumental role in helping India gain a 183-run lead. In the second innings, India hoarded 181/2, riding on Rohit’s 57. India delivered a target of 365 runs to the hosts.

Chasing 365 runs, West Indies lost two wickets at a score of 76. On the final day, rain interrupted the match and the game ended in a draw. Siraj’s fifer also got him the Player of the Match (POTM) award eventually. With this success, India won the two-match Test series by a 1-0 margin.
