On May 15 2013, Yusuf Pathan became the first-ever player to get out while obstructing the field in the history of the Indian Premier League and T20 cricket. In a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India at JSCA International Stadium Complex, in Ranchi, KKR were in a tricky situation while chasing a target of 171 runs when Yusuf got out in an strange manner while running.

On the fifth ball of the 18th over, Yusuf Pathan, who was playing on 72 runs, managed to negotiate the yorker from Wayne Parnell and instantly ran for a single. However, as the bowler was coming near him to collect the ball which was near his feet, Yusuf pushed the ball away with his foot causing an obvious obstruction to the field. After that, the KKR players appealed for a wicket and the third umpire confirmed the dismissal of the batsman for obstructing the field. This was the first instance when any batter got out by obstructing the field in the IPL.
