On Thursday, August 22, Tunisian Ons Jabeur withdrew her name from the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the 2024 season, due to a shoulder injury. In an emotional post on her official Instagram account, the 29-year-old thanked everyone for their support during her tough time before vowing to come back stronger on the WTA Tour.

During the 2024 season, Ons Jabeur has been grappling with multiple injuries, stopping her from playing a few tournaments all over the world. Earlier in the month, she was unable to play in the Citi Open due to the right shoulder injury.

The Tunisian couldn’t take part in the Paris Olympics 2024 due to knee problems this past J uly.

Ons Jabeur took to her official Instagram account to make an emotional announcement about withdrawing her name from the US Open, and wrote, “Dear all, I am truly sad to announce that my shoulder won’t recover in time for the US Open. I feel I need to give 100 % and today its not possible yet. Life has ups and downs, but sometimes in the very negative moments we all need to find the positive in it.”


“This year has been very tough for me, but I know somewhere the light is there. I keep smiling like I always do because I am grateful for my life, my family, my sponsors and the fans that have always supported me. Always grateful for the unconditional support YOU all bring to me”, she added.

The former US Open finalist also spoke about looking to make a “speedy recovery” before returning to action on the WTA Tour. She said, “If you are reading this post and wanting to wish me a speedy recovery, I truly appreciate it and cherish it , And if you are here to question my choices and my team, please find a little kindness in your heart because you don’t know what I have been going through for all these years. I promise once I get my strength back I will come back stronger”.
