After a thrilling ODI World Cup 2023 opener on October 5, Pakistan and Netherlands opened their campaign by locking horns on October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Men in Green, under the leadership of Babar Azam, came to bat first after Scott Edwards won the toss and opted to field. Pakistan were looking forward to an explosive start to the ICC tournament, but what happened in the game seemed to crush all their hopes.

The batting order of Azam’s side collapsed dramatically, as the top batters, including the skipper, failed to perform and returned to the pavilion shortly after the commencement of the match. While Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq were dismissed at 12 and 15, respectively, Babar’s stay on the field came to an end after 5 runs.

It wasn't until Mohammad Rizwan’s 68 off 75 and Saud Shakeel’s 68 off 52 that the 1992 World Champions got some stability in the game. It goes without saying that the Dutch bowlers were on absolute fire and were in no mood to face a defeat in their season opener. Owing to the collective efforts of the Scott Edwards’ bowlers, Azam and Co. scored 227 runs by the end of 40 overs.

The fans on the other side of the Indian border were clearly not expecting such a performance from their team and took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the same. Here’s how fans expressed their frustration on social media.
