On Tuesday, Pakistan's Test opener Abid Ali completed 9,000 First-class runs, but later the 34-year-old was rushed to hospital after complaining of chest pain during a Quaid-e-Azam trophy match. Reportedly Abid, who plays for Central Punjab, felt pain twice while batting against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at UBL Cricket Ground in Karachi. Abid was unbeaten on 61 when he returned to the dressing room.

The cricketer has since reportedly undergone a thorough medical examination and is currently under observation. However, it is not known if the pain was linked to any heart-related problem. According to a PCB spokesman, the player is stable and nothing to worry. He is presently undergoing various tests to diagnose the exact nature of the pain. He had retired hurt on 61.

Informing further about the incident, Central Punjab's manager Ashraf Ali reportedly said that Abid had been taken to hospital. "He was batting on 61 this morning when he complained about having chest pain twice and we felt it was best to send him to the hospital where he is presently under observation and undergoing some more test."

"Nothing can be said right now, the real situation will be revealed only after the check-up," added the manager. Notably, Ali scored 9000 runs in first class-cricket while batting against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the UBL complex.

Abid Ali's Bangladesh tour:

Abid Ali played a crucial role in Pakistan's 2-0 clean sweep  over Bangladesh, earlier this year. The player also scored a ton in the first innings of the first Test, while scored a fifty in the second innings. Abid was an standout player for Pakistan and was recognised as Player of the Test series, as he scored 263 runs at an average of 87.66 average. Abid has been the highest run-getter in Tests for Pakistan since his debut in 2019, and in 2021 he is fifth in the world with 695 runs in nine Tests at 48.87, including a double hundred against Zimbabwe in Harare.

He made his debut in Rawalpindi in 2019 after a spending 12 years in domestic cricket for 7116 runs in 106 first-class games. He made his maiden Test appearance at the age of 31 and began with a century, and also became the only player in history to reach three figures on both Test and ODI debuts.
