Manchester City is all set to sign Palmeiras' defender Vitor Reis. Ries has travelled from Brazil to England to sign on the dotted line. City have been in contact with the Brazilian club for some weeks and, despite some opposition, have now made a breakthrough in talks, which made Premier League club believe that 19-year-old Reis is joining them. Palmeiras was keen to retain Reis for the upcoming summer's Club World Cup. However, City sources believe that if the sale, said to be worth £29.4 million, is completed, Reis will join them immediately.
Palmeiras were always at ease with the situation, having sold a slew of talent to Europe in the previous 18 months for large sums, notably Endrick to Real Madrid and Willian Estevao to Chelsea. Reis is all set to join City in the ongoing January transfer window, following Abdukodir Khusanov's £33.5 million move from Lens.
Reis could become most expensive centre-back signed from Brazil
City have experienced a lot of injury difficulties in recent times, with centre-backs John Stones and Ruben Dias among those sidelined in recent weeks. Signing Reis could be a great boost to the team.
Tim Vickery, a South American football analyst, said in an interview "Palmeiras initially hoped to keep him for the Club World Cup, but their pragmatic approach led to an increased bid. It appears to have met their asking price. It appears that it will go ahead in the next days. Vitor Reis would become Brazil's most expensive centre-back."
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt has been notified that Manchester City wishes to sign Omar Marmoush immediately. The German club wants approximately £67 million (€80 million) for the 25-year-old. According to Sky Germany, City's current offer is slightly lower than Eintracht's desire, with a fixed price of £59 million (€70 million) plus £4.2 million to £8.4 million (€5 million to €10 million) in add-ons.
