On Friday, August 2, the Indian mixed archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat defeated Arif Pangestu and Diananda Choirunisa of Indonesia 5-1 at the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris. In the pre-quarter final clash, the Indian pair were too strong for the Indonesians, to make the round of 8 of the archery event.
In the first set, Bhakat shot two 9s, while Bommadevara shot 10 and 9. In response, Pangestu shot 10 and 9, but Choirunisa shot 9 and 8, which led to the Indian pair taking the first set 37-36.
The second set was a slightly closer affair than the first one, in which all the four players from India and Indonesia shot a 10 and 9, which meant that it ended in a 38-38 tie. With that, the third set became a must win for the Indonesian pair to keep themselves alive in the pre-quarter final match.
During the third set, Ankita Bhakat brought her best game forward, shooting two consecutive 10s, while Bommadevera shot a couple of 9s. Meanwhile, Choirunisa shot 9 and 10, followed by Pangestu shooting 9 and 9, which wasn’t enough for them as they lost the third set and the match 38-37.
