Indian runner Jyothi Yarraji ended her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign after finishing fourth in her repechage of the women’s 100m hurdles. Yarraji missed the  automatic semifinal spot after finishing seventh with a below-par time in her round-one heat race.

In her  repechage,  Yarraji finished fourth in her 100m hurdles heat with a time of 13.17. Marione Fourie of South Africa and Maayke Tjin-A-Lim of the Netherlands advanced to the semifinal after finishing first and second.   Talking about her opening round one race, the Olympic debutant became the first Indian to compete in 100m hurdles in the Games and clocked 13.16 seconds in heat number four to finish 35th overall out of 40 total runners.

Talking about other Indian athletes, Avinash Sable’s medal dreams ended after he finished 11th in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final. Sable couldn’t maintain his pace and his performance fell short of expectations as he clocked a timing of 8 minutes 14.18 seconds. The race was won by Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco in a season’s best time of 8 minutes 06.05 seconds.

During the race, Sable was unable to improve upon his recent performance at the Paris Diamond League, where he had set a new national record with the timings of 8:09.91 seconds. The 29-year-old, though, took the lead briefly during the contest but failed to keep up the momentum and eventually slipped to 11th spot.
