Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal has written a mail to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game between Mumbai Indians (MI) versus Delhi Capitals (DC) from Mumbai to a different location. With rain threat looming over the important contest, Delhi supporters are fearing that bad weather might spoilsport and affect their team’s playoffs chances. Currently, DC are fifth at the points tally with 13 points in 12 matches while Mumbai have gained 14 points through seven victories in 12 outings. Noting this scenario, the contest between the 2020 finalists becomes crucial for Capitals.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Tuesday evening for the next four days which means there is a high possibility of rain during the upcoming match on May 21. As per ESPNcricinfo, Jindal’s mail to BCCI read, "The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out. Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow's game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers."
DC will have to win their both games to qualify for the playoffs
With the top three teams on the points table already qualified for the playoffs, DC's competition is with Mumbai, who possess the strongest team net run rate of +1.156 in the tournament. With these circumstances, Delhi will have to win their remaining matches to advance to the next round.
Both MI and Delhi played against each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13. The contest was won by MI by 12 runs then while defending a total of 205. In the upcoming game, DC will look to avenge their previous defeat and solidify their qualification chances.
