Former Indian cricketer Ramesh Powar has been appointed as Head Coach of the India Women's team again after his stint ended in 2018. The former Indian off-spinner will be replacing WV Raman who was with the women's team from Dec 2018 and helped the team reach the Women's T20 World Cup final in 2020. However, post that he was appointed as India A team bowling coach and also coached Mumbai Team in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Some facts about Ramesh Powar's career

- Ramesh Powar, despite being mainly a bowler, scored more than 4000 runs in First-Class cricket with 7 centuries to his name. Powar's contribution with both bat (418 runs) and ball (20 wickets) in Ranji Trophy 2002/03 helped Mumbai lift the trophy.

- Ramesh Powar, while playing for Mumbai in the Irani Trophy against the Rest of India during September 2003, had impressed with his bowling skills by picking key wickets of Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh in the first innings. He ended up with bowling figures of 4/61 in that innings. His good performance was noticed and thus got his national call-up during the India tour of Pakistan in 2004.

- Ramesh Powar got to play most of his ODI games under Rahul Dravid's captaincy in 2006-2007. He was one of the emerging players during Greg Chappell's coaching time. In India vs England 2006 ODI, he stitched a 107-run partnership with MS Dhoni, when India were struggling at 79/5 at one stage. Powar smashed his only ODI career fifty in that game.

- Despite playing 148 FC matches, Ramesh Powar has played only 1 Test series for India in his entire career. He played just 2 Test matches against Bangladesh in 2007. 

- Ramesh Powar played 22 matches for PBKS and 5 matches for KTK in IPL. In his T20 career, he managed to pick 14 wickets at a bowling average of 40.14 with an economy of 7.49.

- Ramesh Powar as a Women's team Head Coach led India to the semi-final of the Women's T20 World Cup in 2018. Post that, he couldn't continue as coach due to his controversial feud with ODI skipper Mithali Raj, despite Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana asking him to continue as coach.

- Later in August 2019, Powar became Bowling Coach of India A team. He also coached the Mumbai team for Vijay Hazare Trophy this year. Mumbai ended up being the champions of the tournament.
