The highly-anticipated England - India Test series is just days away from start and ahead of the series, the series has finally got a new name. It is to be noted that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) earlier retired the coveted MAK Pataudi Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the bilateral series, which is played between England and India in the UK.
But with India hoping to overturn their results against England in England, the prestigious trophy is set to be renamed on Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson’s name. According to a report in bbc.com, the Pataudi Trophy is set to be renamed as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.
Pataudi Trophy likely to be renamed to Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy
This comes as both the legends have had their fare share in Test cricket history. While India great Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-getter in Test history with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests played between 1989 and 2013, James Anderson is England’s all-time leading wicket-taker with 704 scalps in 188 matches.
Notably, the Pataudi Trophy was first put on the line during the three-match Test series between England and India in 2007, to commemorate 75 years of the first Test, which was played in 1932. On that occasion, the Indian cricket team managed to win the series 1-0 after defeating England in one of the Test matches at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, to clinch the MAK Pataudi Trophy for the first and only time. Since the renaming of the rivalry in 2007, both India and England have played five Test series in which England have emerged victorious three times while India have won the trophy only once back in 2007.
