Brennan Johnson’s goal in the 69th minute made the game intriguing as the scores were leveled. In the crunch situation, Kevin De Bruyne displayed his brilliance and scored in the 88th minute for the hosts to help his team conclude the game by 4-3 figures. Wales recorded their first loss under their manager Craig Bellamy. The defeat also deprived Wales of a national record of 10 matches unbeaten.

Belgium promoted to the third spot in UEFA Group J

Belgium are currently holding third place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification - UEFA Group J. With this win, they surpassed Kazakhstan on the points tally. Belgium have accumulated four points through one win and a draw. Talking about Wales, they are in the second spot with seven points earned through two wins, one draw, and a loss.

Both Wales and Belgium will play their respective next contests on September 4. Wales will take on Kazakhstan at Astana Arena while Belgium will clash against Liechtenstein at Rheinpark Stadion. With North Macedonia already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Belgium will look to clinch the second spot to advance to the playoffs.
