On Tuesday, April 8, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four runs to register their second straight win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Coming into the match on the back of a 12-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI), a win over KKR helped them climb to the fourth place in the IPL 2025 points table.
For the unversed, KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first. On the back of a crucial opening partnership between Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, along with an unbeaten 86 from hard-hitter Nicholas Pooran, LSG posted 238 runs on the board at the loss of three wickets in the 20 overs.
Nicholas Pooran becomes second-fastest batter to reach 2000 IPL runs
While the West Indies international brought his third half-century in the ongoing edition of IPL, he got to the fifty-run mark off 21 deliveries. With his 50 he also breached the 2000 runs mark and further went upto score 87* off 36 deliveries during his short stay, with his innings laced with eight sixes and seven boundaries.
The wicketkeeper-batter became the second-fastest to 2000 IPL runs and also the fifth West Indies international to reach this feat. He sits after Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Smith and Andre Russell.
With his 87*, Nicholas Pooran continues to sit at the top of the Orange Cap with 288 runs from five matches with an average of 72 and a strike rate of 225. His 87 unbeaten is the highest score coming from his bat so far in the tournament.
