In the IPL 2025 match on May 2 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, GT secured a solid 38-run victory. GT captain Shubman Gill led the charge with a blistering 76 off 38 balls, helping his side get a solid start and post a good total on the scoreboard. Leading from the front, Gill’s aggressive approach from the beginning helped take the pressure off the other batters and was instrumental for GT to secure its seventh win of the season.
The top-three of the GT batting line-up did the job for the team by playing some wonderful individual innings. Gill led the charge with a blistering 76 off 38 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed a solid 64 off 37 deliveries. Opener Sai Sudarshan also contributed his share by scoring 48 off 23 balls and narrowly missing out on his half-century. He also got a 87-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill for the first wicket and re-established himself in the number one position for the orange cap race. Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers for SRH, claiming three wickets in the final over.
In response, SRH managed 186/6 in 20 overs, falling short of the target. Despite a brisk start by openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, the team couldn't maintain the required run rate. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Pat Cummins were at the crease towards the end, but the steep required run rate proved to be a little too much.
Gill smashes 12 boundaries as GT score 224/6 in first innings
Gill’s contribution in the first innings was extremely valuable as GT were propelled to a big score to defend in the second innings. Showing intent from the very first ball, Shubman Gill finished his innings with 10 fours and 2 sixes, hitting at a strike-rate of 200. In fact, during the third over of the powerplay, Sai Sudharsan let all loose and smashed 5 fours in that over to Mohammed Shami, scoring 20 off that over.
With a dominant performance from both the batting and bowling unit, along with a solid fielding display by the Titans, they have now moved to second position in the IPL table, with 14 points. They are level on points with table-toppers MI, who have played one extra match.
