Fresh from a victorious tour to England in which they won two brilliant Test matches and ended up defeating a power packed English side comprising the heroic names such as the recently retired Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Jofra Archer, the New Zealand aka BlackCaps will now focus on their next big agenda. And that’s to capture the West Indies side back in the Caribbean by emerging triumphant in the soon-to-begin 5 match one day international series.

The series holds a significant moment and perhaps one to cherish for none other than the new and rising Matt Fisher who has been named in the BlackCaps squad to contest the West Indies.

This is a maiden one-day call up for Matt Fisher in New Zealand’s 16-member squad.

The strongly built young and talented fast bowler from New Zealand is all of 26 years of age and happens to be a vital member of the Northern Districts. A thinking fast bowler who can vary his pace, Matt Fisher will be hoping to come good in his first ever white ball international series for the New Zealand side with talented and established names alongside to guide him- such as the returning Jacob Duffy who was most recently seen in the famed Indian Premier League (where he played for the victors RCB).

Where it stands at the moment when the BlackCaps are still trying to regroup and find the next generation of definitive talents that can take up the mantle of fast bowling responsibility in this post-Trent Boult and Tim Southee era, which is where an emerging Fisher alongside the well-set Duffy becomes important.

What also ought to be noted is that Matt Fisher had already made his test debut as of the last year when he played Zimbabwe in red ball cricket. Furthermore, as seen earlier this year he had made his T20I debut against Bangladesh.

Ahead of the start of the series and in the wake of the arrival of Matt Fisher to the team competing against the West Indies, here’s what the NZ coach Mr Rob Walter happened to share-

"It's great to have Jacob and Matt joining the group and I know they'll bring a lot of energy and excitement. It's a nice opportunity to introduce Matt to the ODI group for the first time. He bowls with good pace and has been working hard on his variations to ensure he can bowl at different stages of the innings.”

New Zealand have thus far won 31 games to Windies’ 30 in the ODI format.
