Gujarat batter Urvil Patel who earned the limelight for smashing the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian, also showed his class in first-class cricket during the quarter final of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Saurashtra at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Notably, Gujarat defeated Saurashtra by an innings and 98 runs to qualify for the semi–final of the ongoing tournament. 

After scoring 511 runs in the first innings, taking a lead of 295 runs, Gujarat bowlers did their job well in the second innings as Saurashtra were bowled out for 197 runs. In the other quarter finals, Vidarbha defeated Tamil Nadu by 198 runs while Mumbai come out victorious by 152 runs against Haryana to confirm their place in the semi-final. On the other hand, Kerala 299 runs with eight wickets in hand against Jammu Kashmir on the final day of the match.

Talking about the match, batting first, Saurashtra were bowled out for 216 runs with Chirag Jani top scoring with 69(143) runs. For Gujarat, Chintan Gaja took four scalps while bowling. In reply, Gujarat went on to score 511 runs taking a lead of 295 runs. Urvil Patel top scored with 140(197) runs hitting 17 fours and four sixes, while Jaymeet Manishbhai Patel also scored 103(171) runs with 11 boundaries. For Saurashtra, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took a five-wicket haul while Chirag Jani took four scalps.

Coming after a big trail, Saurashtra kept losing wickets in the second innings as well and were bowled out for 197 runs during the second session of day four. Harvik Desai was top scorer with 54(103) runs hitting nine boundaries. For Gujarat, Priyajitsing Jadeja took four wickets, Arzan Nagwaswalla took three, while Ravi Bishnoi scalped two and Chintan Gaja put one in his bag.
