
On this day, May 6, 2017: Mumbai Indians register a massive 146 run win against Delhi Daredevils. It was the 45th match of the Indian Premier League played between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils at Delhi. Mumbai Indians were batting first and the openers started really well putting up a 79 run partnership. Lendl Simmons went past a half century while Parthiv Patel scored 25 before getting dismissed. Mumbai lost their first wicket in the ninth over and in a surprising move, Kieron Pollard was promoted to Number 3 in the batting order.
Simmons and Pollard put up an excellent partnership to put Mumbai Indians in a dominant position. Mumbai Indians lost their second wicket with 116 runs on the board as Lendl Simmons lost his wicket for 66 runs. Pollard continued the onslaught and took on the bowlers. He smashed an unbeaten 63* from just 35 balls as Mumbai Indians posted a massive total of 212/3 at the end of the first innings. It was a terrific knock and Hardik Pandya provided the finish as he scored 29* of just 14 balls. It was a tough outing for the Delhi bowlers.
Chasing the target, Delhi Daredevils lost five wickets in the powerplay. Sanju Samson was dismissed for a duck while Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Karun Nair and Corey Anderson fell cheaply as Delhi were reduced to 35/5 at the end of the powerplay. It was a dream start for Mumbai Indians with Malinga putting up a good show with the new ball.
Delhi could not recover in the middle overs as spinners Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma picked up three wickets each to bowl out Delhi Daredevils for just 66. It was a dominant performance from the Mumbai Indians side who picked up a massive win and broke records on that night. It was a memorable day for them.
