The former Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has heaped praises on the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, ahead of their warm-up match in the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. The 37-year-old stated that all the players respect Rohit Sharma as a leader while talking about how good he has been in the captaincy role for India in the last few years.

After losing the three match T20I series by a 2-1 margin against the United States of America, the Bangladesh cricket team had their first warm-up match in preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024 against the same opponent at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas called off due to rain. Meanwhile, India, who arrived on the American shores a couple of days ago, will be playing only one warm-up match before the upcoming ICC tournament against Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York on Saturday, June 1.

The official broadcasting partner of ICC for the T20 World Cup 2024, Star Sports, took to their official X account to post a clip of Shakib Al Hasan lauding Rohit Sharma for his leadership skills. He said, “I think the way he led India in last few years was terrific. He had tremendous record as a captain. And I think all the players respect him as a leader of the team. And he’s someone who can take the game away from the opponent single-handedly.

During his appearance on a YouTube channel called “What A Show,” Shakib Al Hasan alluded to how Rohit Sharma is a selfless cricketer who always puts team first. He was quoted as saying, as per Asianet News, “Look at someone like Rohit Sharma. He built his career from No. 7 to opener, scored 10,000-plus runs. If he sometimes bats at No. 3 or 4, would it be a big problem?”

“A player should bat at any position for the team. Team first. It doesn’t make any difference if you have made 100 or 200, and the team loses. What can you do with personal achievement? You want to make a name for yourself?,” Shakib Al Hasan added.
