During the second Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and Bangladesh at the iconic Dubai International Stadium, when the latter saw themselves at a score of 35/5 within 10 overs, their middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy stepped up and produced a phenomenal knock of 100 off 118 from his bat. His innings was studded with eight boundaries (six fours and two maximums). It also marked his maiden ODI ton. Along with Jaker Ali, he built a 154-run partnership and broke into the record books for the most-successful sixth-wicket stand for the Bangla side in ODIs.

With the Bangla tigers reeling at a score of 35/5, Hridoy was expected to stay at the middle and stabilise Bangladesh’s innings. Mohammed Shami and Axar Patel wreaked havoc on batters and pushed the Bangla team on the backfoot. Veterans such as Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim looked completely out of rhythm while confronting India’s formidable bowling. However, young Hridoy didn’t lose hope in the pressure situation and grabbed the opportunity with both hands to display valour. He displayed discipline and patience to irritate Team India bowlers. His batting efforts also gave confidence to Jaker, who didn’t look confident in the initial stage of his innings. Jaker left the field after racking up 68 runs off 114 balls. Riding on their batting efforts, Bangladesh accumulated a respectable score of 228 runs on the board after playing 49.4 overs.

Hridoy’s knock received appreciation from the stands

Hridoy departed after hitting his maiden ton. Harshit Rana clinched his wicket and ended his magnificent innings. When he was walking back towards the dugout, his colleagues were seen commending his innings with claps and standing ovation. Chasing 229 runs, India have looked fierce thus far as both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched a 69-run stand in just 9.5 overs.

Rohit is back in the dugout after his rapid 41 off 36 while Gill is standing at the crease with Virat Kohli to take the team towards the target. Taskin Ahmed took the crucial scalp of the 37-year-old. As of 7:41 PM (IST), India are 78/1 in 14 overs, with Gill batting at 31 off 35 while Kohli is at 5 after facing 14 balls.
