French champions Paris Saint-Germain were in action on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 group stage fixture as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar Jr each scored a goal to beat Israeli club Maccabi Haifa 3-1. Argentine captain Lionel Messi created history with his goal as he overtook Cristiano Ronaldo in two UCL records.

After conceding before the half an hour mark in the game, former Barcelona star Lionel Messi scored an equalizer in the 37th minute. In the second half, French forward Kylian Mbappe scored a 69' goal followed by Neymar Jr's 88th minute goal and helped PSG comfortably win the game.

After Lionel Messi scored the equalizer against Maccabi Haifa, he became the first player in the Champions League history to score in 18 consecutive seasons as Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been competing in the Europa League this season.

Secondly, the Argentine wizard faced Israeli club Maccabi Haifa for the first time in his career and a goal against such opponent helped him overtake Ronaldo in yet another UCL record. With his last night's goal, Messi scored against 39 different opponents in the Champions League as compared to Ronaldo's 38.

Meanwhile, PSG are currently on the top in Group H with two wins in two games followed by Benfica Lisbon, who defeated Serie A giants Juventus 2-1 on Wednesday. PSG and Benfica have won their respective two games and will face each other on October 5.
