India beat Netherlands by 17 runs in the 36th match of the 2026 WT20. India opted to bat first as they wanted to challenge themselves ahead of the Super 8 stages. This match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Abhishek Sharma continued his poor form in this edition as he scored his third duck of the tournament. He is yet to score a single run and India were in trouble as they lost the first wicket in the first over.
Ishan Kishan played a few good shots and along with Tilak Varma stitched up a partnership. Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 18 as India lost the second wicket for 39. The Netherlands bowlers put on the screws as they restricted the scoring rate. With this win, team India has now registered 17 consecutive wins in the shortest format of the game. Interestingly, 12 matches India has won in T20 World Cup.
Tilak Varma was the next to get dismissed as he was dismissed for 31 runs off 27 balls. It was a struggle for him as he could not rotate strike. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube came together and took India to a stronger position. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 34 as India lost the fourth wicket with 110 on the board. Shivam Dube played a stunning innings as he smashed a 25 ball half century.
Dube and Hardik went all guns blazing as India finished with a very good total of 193/6 in the first innings. Shivam Dube scored 66 of just 31 balls and that knock included 6 sixes and 4 fours. Hardik ended up with 30 and India posted a very good total at the halfway mark. For Netherlands, it was Aryan Dutt who was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up two wickets while giving away only 19 runs in his four overs. Logan van Beek scalped three wickets but was expensive giving away 56 runs.
Indian opening bowlers started tightly as they restricted Netherlands to 33/0 at the end of 5 overs. Varun Chakravarthy came into the attack and picked up the wicket of Max O Dowd immediately. Indian bowlers were terrific and they did an excellent job picking up wickets regularly. Varun scalped three wickets to dent the chase. Netherlands finished with 176/7 and India won the match by 17 runs. Shivam Dube was the player of the match. India ended the group stage by topping the table with four wins in four matches.
