Paris Saint-Germain have fired their current coach Christoph Galtier and his support staff after just one year with the team. Galtier couldn’t get the best out of a star-studded team and had a disappointing 2022-23 season. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the French champions are looking to rope in former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique as Galtier's replacement.

The French coach failed to impress in his stint as the Paris boss as the Ligue 1 winners crashed out in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. The Parisians also failed to win the French Cup as they lost 2-1 against Marseille in the round of 16.  Although they successfully got their 11th successful title, the expectations at PSG are far higher which has led to the axe.

"Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have decided to terminate his contract as coach of the first team," the club announced in a statement published after sources close to the negotiations had revealed the news to AFP.

The statement continued, "Everyone at Paris Saint-Germain thanks Christophe Galtier, as well as his assistants Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento, for their professionalism and commitment over the course of the season, and wishes them the best in their future careers."

Galtier's departure could pave the way for the arrival of Luis Enrique, who is reportedly set to be announced as the new PSG boss later in the day. Enrique, who has been out of work since leaving his role as the Spain national team coach last year, is a highly regarded tactician who has won multiple trophies with Barcelona, including the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League in 2015.

PSG have called a press conference at their training ground for later on Wednesday when Luis Enrique is set to be unveiled as the new coach to replace Galtier. Enrique will be tasked with reviving PSG's fortunes and fulfilling their long-standing ambition of winning the Champions League, which has eluded them despite their massive investment in recent years.
