Punjab Kings is not set to renew head coach Anil Kumble's contract as both entities end the three-season stint. As per reports, the decision was taken by a board comprising multiple owners, which included Bollywood actor Preity Zinta, industrialists Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul and King's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satish Menon.

The Kings are currently looking out for a new coach and would make an announcement soon. Kumble joined the Punjab-based franchise in 2020 and since then they have finished out of the playoffs of the Indian Premier League points table. They stood fifth in 2020 and 2021 when the league had eight teams and sixth in the 2022 season when the IPL had ten teams.

Reports saying that PBKS was set to part ways with Kumble have been surfacing for the last few weeks. Reports say that the Kings are contacting Trevor Bayliss and Eoin Morgan for the coaching role. However, at this point, nothing is concrete yet. "The Mohali team has apparently decided not to renew Anil Kumble’s three-year contract, which ends this September. They are already in search of candidates.”

“It is learnt that their representatives have approached the likes of Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and one former India coach. Eventually one of them or none of them may get the posting. Punjab Kings under Anil Kumble only won just 19 from a possible 42 games they played.

Recently, the Punjab Kings were also forced to give a clarification after rumours floated in the media that Mayank Agarwal was set to be removed from the captaincy role of the franchise. The team posted the message on their social media platforms, calling out the reports and criticising them.

“News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to the captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise has been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same,” the message read on the team’s Twitter handle.
