In a latest move amid the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the upcoming match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and former champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) has been relocated to Mumbai. Notably, the match was scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 11 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

The decision was taken seeing the current security concerns in the Indian subcontinent after the retaliation of the recent Pahalgam terror attacks in the Kashmir valley. However, an official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still awaited, but the news circulated seeing the Indian government shut down a couple of airports, one of them being in Dharamsala.

PBKS vs MI match shifted to Mumbai amid tightened security

It is to be noted that MI’s travel to Dharamsala for the upcoming match in IPL 2025 was delayed due to the closure of the airport amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Even several flight operations were hampered and have been suspended until further notice.

The move from the cricketing board came after the Indian armed forces along with the Indian government put up an action with their Operation Sindoor. It is to be noted that at midnight on May 7, India conducted a precision strike, dubbed as ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attacks. As a result of tightened security, the India government has shut down a couple of airports in the north, including the one of Dharamsala and Chandigarh.

While this stands at one place, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 8 is expected to go as planned. While both teams will be eyeing to move out of Dharamsala after the recent security concerns, they are expected to travel by road to play their remaining matches in the tournament.
