Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan owned a sensational record during the maiden game of The Hundred 2025 between Oval Invincibles and London Spirit at Lord's. In the opening contest, Oval claimed a convincing six-wicket win and Rashid emerged as the Player Of The Match (POTM) for his 3/11 figures and three catches. Bowling four overs, he took the scalps of Wayne Madsen, Liam Dawson, and Ryan Higgins. Rashid has looked out of rhythm this year. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he struggled to be among the wickets for Gujarat Titans (GT). Following the cash-rich league, he struggled in Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL) as well. In the final, he looked bright with the ball and grabbed a four-wicket haul.

Rashid Khan carried his last game’s form to The Hundred 2025 opening match and guided Oval Invincibles to a comfortable triumph. During the match, he also pulled off a superb milestone after getting the better of Dawson. With the England player’s scalp, Rashid became the first bowler to bag 650 wickets in T20 cricket. The Afghan star player achieved the record in 482 matches. It was Rashid’s debut game for Oval. Until the last season, he was associated with Trent Rockets.

Sam Curran emerged as the unsung hero of Oval Invincibles’ victory

Besides Rashid Khan, Sam Curran did a remarkable job in Oval’s one-sided win. As a bowler, the 27-year-old registered 3/18 figures in his 3.4 overs while donning the batter’s role, he accumulated 14 runs off just nine balls in the pressure situation.

Invincibles’ next clash will be against Manchester Originals at The Oval on August 9. Both teams have played against each on five occasions with Oval emerging victorious four times while Original winning only one game. In 2022, Manchester tasted their last victory against Invincibles. Oval shattered Originals’ dream of winning the title after beating them in the 2022 final held at the iconic Lord’s.
