Afghanistan star player Rashid Khan has withdrawn from the upcoming 2024 season of the Pakistan Super League. As part of the defending champions Lahore Qalandars,  Khan pulled out of the tournament citing rehab after his back surgery. The star leg-spinner was the best bowler for the Qalandars in 2023 with a tally of 20 wickets in 11 games at an average of  14.05.

But in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Rashid Khan suffered a back injury after Afghanistan's final league game against South Africa. Since then Khan has been out of action including the Atalan Lion's recent T20I series against India. Continuing his recovery,  Rashid Khan has withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League after making himself unavailable for the Big Bash League and the SA20.

Afghanistan head coach, Jonathan Trott, spoke about how Rashid Khan and the board have taken a cautious approach regarding the recovery and the leg-spinner will only be back when he is 100% fit. As quoted by Cricinfo, Trott said,  "It is a case of us making sure that we are really careful with his back."

"He is such an influential player: we have to make sure he is 100% ready and not rush him back from that type of surgery… when he is ready, he will be the first one to get on the field.  He has got a few more appointments and check-ups to make sure everything is OK, so there is no real time-frame. I hope it is sooner rather than later, but there is no pressure and no rush."

The ESPN Cricinfo report also states Rashid Khan could be ready for Afghanistan's multi-format series against Ireland in the UAE. Further,  Rashid is set to be ready for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League, which is slated to kick off on March 22.
