Rasmus Hojlund, the Manchester United striker, is reportedly set to be left out of the squad for the opening Premier League game of the 2025-26 season against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17. The Danish footballer, who is 22 years of age, got signed by Manchester United a couple of seasons ago, but after a tough last campaign in all competitions, the uncertainty has grown in regards to his future at the club under manager Ruben Amorim during the ongoing summer transfer window.
As per the report from Laurie Whitehill from The Athletic, Ruben Amorim has told Rasmus Hojlund that he will get limited time to play for Manchester United in the 2025-26 season, and the step to not include him in the Premier League opener against Arsenal is expected to be taken because of it. With the arrival of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, the hope for Rasmus Hojlund to re-establish himself in the scheme of things at the Red Devils is fast extinguishing.

Apart from Benjamin Sesko, Manchester United already have Joshua Zirkzee to play the coveted number nine role, while the other two new signings Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha are fully capable of slipping into the role of the false nine if necessary. Due to plenty of options up front, it is only academic that Amorim has given the ultimatum to Hojlund about his standing at the club.
Despite the intention from Rasmus Hojlund to prove himself at Manchester United, as reiterated by him on multiple occasions during pre-season, he will now have to pivot very fast. There is interest among a few clubs wanting to sign the Dane, with AC Milan and RB Leipzig among the biggest names, but they are expected to opt for a loan deal rather than a permanent one.
Moreover, Manchester United will be hoping to register a statement victory over Arsenal to kick off their Premier League 2025-26 campaign, especially since the visitors have had the wood over them in the last few years.
