New Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced INR 10 lakh compenstaion for the families of victims who lost their lives in the Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 4. During Challengers’ victory celebration at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, 11 people died and 47 got injured in the stampede outside the venue. The horrific incident has grabbed a lot of media attention and now, the Karnataka State Government, RCB management, and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) are under criticism for the mismanagement. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives.
Besides releasing funds for the deceased, Challengers will also form the RCB Cares fund to finance the treatment of injured victims during the stampede. The franchise made this announcement through their social media post. "The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief," read RCB’s official statement on X.
RCB to undergo scrutiny for announcing victory parade through social media
RCB will face scrutiny for announcing a public victory parade on social media just hours ahead of the terrible incident. The investigation will also include KSCA senior officials who are facing public’s ire for conducting the event without concrete planning. They will have to answer questions from Bengaluru Police and a magisterial enquiry panel.
Following the nightmare in Bengaluru, several RCB players dropped their team’s official statement through their social media handles to express sorrow for the victims of the incident. Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya, and Dinesh Karthik were some prominent names who showed solidarity with the victims’ families.
