India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart Virat Kohli and his spouse Anushka Sharma returned to Mumbai on June 5, following the victory celebration of the new Indian Premier League (IPL) champion side in Bengaluru. Kohli played a crucial role in Challengers’ victory as he ended up as the third-leading run-getter in the competition, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 144.71. Following the win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final of the competition held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Kohli and his wife Anushka were seen getting emotional as the 36-year-old’s 18-year wait ended with RCB’s colossal success.
Both eminent personalities returned to Mumbai after the day in Bengaluru, where RCB celebrated their title victory which attracted a large crowd outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Things went terribly wrong as Bengaluru authorities failed to control the crowd and a stampede took place in which 11 people lost their lives. Reacting to the tragic incident, Kohli also expressed sorrow through RCB’s official statement.
What’s next for Virat Kohli fans?
Virat Kohli supporters won’t get to see their favourite cricketer on the field consistently after the veteran’s retirement from international Test cricket. The 36-year-old is only active in One-Day Internationals (ODI) and noting this fact, it can be said that his fans will get to see him in action in only 27 matches until the Cricket World Cup 2027, to be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Kohli hung up his boots from red-ball cricket on May 12 after serving India for 14 years in the format. Before him, another veteran Rohit Sharma also retired from the longest form of the sport on May 7. Following their retirement, Team India are now tasked to win the upcoming Test series in English soil under young Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
