Spanish giants Real Madrid have lost an appeal to overturn the two-match suspension from La Liga for Jude Bellingham after the English midfielder was caught swearing at a referee last weekend. During his team’s 1-1 draw in La Liga against Osasuna at the Estadio El Sadar on 15 February, Jude Bellingham received a straight red in the first half, which led to his suspension from next two matches in La Liga in Real Madrid colours.
Notably, in his match report for Osasuna versus Real Madrid in La Liga, referee Jose Munuera Montero stated that Jude Bellingham exclaimed, “f*** you” to him. Citing this match report, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) issued a two-match ban by stating the reason that the footballer displayed “contemptuous or inconsiderate attitudes towards referees, officials or sports authorities”.
Jude Bellingham won’t be playing against Girona and Real Betis in La Liga
Following the conclusion of the La Liga match last weekend, Jude Bellingham spoke about how he didn’t insult the referee, instead he was expressing anger to himself. In their appeal to get the 21-year-old’s ban overturned, Real Madrid told the appeals committee of RFEF that their player had said, “f*** off” rather than “f*** you” to the referee, and it all happened in the heat of the moment during the keenly contested match.
But, the RFEF appeals committee remarked that the Galacticos tried to showcase the absence of the “insulting or offensive nature of f*** off”, but it wasn’t relevant to the matter since they didn’t prove he said it to the referee. With that, it is now official that Jude Bellingham will not be playing against Girona this weekend at the Santiago Bernabeu before missing out on a visit to Real Betis on Sunday, March 2.
Moreover, Jude Bellingham won’t be playing the first leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 at home early next month due to a suspension after receiving a third booking in the competition earlier this week.
