After a short summer break, the Formula One action resumed once again with a dramatic qualifying session in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps. It was always going to be a tricky day for the drivers under extremely wet and challenging conditions. After the session had been red-flagged in Q3 post Norris' terrible clash, drivers returned on the track after a brief stoppage. In the end, it was Red Bull's Max Verstappen who registered the fastest lap to take pole position for Sunday's race.

However, the star of the show was Williams' youngster Geroge Russell who produced a brilliant lap to finish P2 against all odds. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took P3 while McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo looked like his own self once again as he completed the second row line-up for Sunday's race.

Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri), Sergio Perez (Red Bull), Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Lando Norris (McLaren) completed the top 10.

Disappointing day for Ferrari on Saturday

Ferrari have been showing some good signs of improvement in the last few races. However, the conditions at Spa were just not favourable for them as Charles Leclerc (P11) and Carlos Sainz (P13) failed to qualify for Q3. It was a tough day for Alfa Romeo and Haas as well with all their drivers getting eliminated in Q1 itself.

Talking about other drivers, it was an impressive outing for Williams' driver Nicholas Latifi as well who finished P12. Fernando Alonso (Alpine) and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) had a disappointing session as they ended at P14 and P15 respectively.

Russell stuns everyone with his outstanding lap

Coming on the back of his first points finish in Formula One for Williams, George Russell went a step ahead in Belgium on Saturday. The youngster once again qualified for Q3 which was being seen as an amazing qualification result for the team. However, he produced a remarkable lap in the dying minutes to secure P2 on the grid for Sunday's race, leaving everyone in awe of his skills.

Reflecting on his best-ever qualifying performance with Williams in F1, Russell said, "I’m absolutely buzzing. Tomorrow’s the important one but it’s been mega today. I’m delighted for everyone. If the weather is the same and it’s there for the taking tomorrow, we’ll go for it."

With things so interestingly poised and weather expected to remain the same on Sunday, the stage is set for a mouth-watering Belgian GP 2021 at Spa.
