The BCCI is working to reschedule the remaining season of IPL 2025 soon after the tournament was suspended on May 9 due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan at the border. However, as several reports for the resumption of the IPL are coming, there also has been a doubt for the availability of the foreign players for the remainder of the season. Amidst all this, Punjab Kings CEO Satish Menon revealed that head coach Ricky Ponting left his boarded flight when he heard the news of ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Notably, as the things were escalating between India and Pakistan, USA President Donald Trump came in as a mediator and applied a ceasefire. Now, as the ceasefire is announced, the IPL is likely to return soon and the BCCI are reportedly trying to end the season by the end of May.
"Kudos to Ricky. He was going home. He even boarded the flight, but the moment we sent him the message that a ceasefire has been announced, he returned. Brad Haddin (assistant coach) is also in,” PBKS CEO Satish Menon told Times of India.
Ponting has convinced them: PBKS source on possibility of overseas players returning after resumption of IPL 2025
A source from PBKS also revealed that how the overseas players weren’t willing to return for the remainder of IPL 2025 but Ricky Ponting convinced them to stay. Notably, PBKS are currently at the third place at the points table with seven wins and three losses and are on the verge of finishing in top four for the first time after 2014.
“The foreign players are not used to something like this . So, it was natural for them to feel anxious. Led by Stoinis, they all wanted to leave at the earliest and understandably so. But Ponting has convinced them to stay back post ceasefire which I think is remarkable,” the source told PTI as quoted News24.
