On August 5, the main event of UFC Nashville will feature Rob Font, a UFC bantamweight contender, taking on Cory Sandhagen in place of the injured Umar Nurmagomedov. Instead of the divisional limit of 135 pounds, Sandhagen vs. Font will take place at a catchweight of 140 pounds, lasting five rounds.
Umar Nurmagomedov, who had to withdraw from his first promotional headliner due to a shoulder ailment, is replaced by Font. Before switching, the Massachusetts native had been scheduled to fight Song Yadong for the promotion's comeback to Boston, which was scheduled at UFC 292. Yadong was compelled to withdraw from the fight on August 19 for unspecified reasons, according to reports.
Font (20-6 MMA, 10-5 UFC) hopes to extend a one-win streak to two games. Font defeated Adrian Yanez by knockout at UFC 287. The victory ended a two-fight losing streak that included losses against Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera.
After two consecutive unsuccessful title defences, Sandhagen (16-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) has won back-to-back fights. Sandhagen has defeated Yadong and Marlon Vera since suffering defeats to T.J. Dillashaw and Petr Yan in the championship bouts.
