With several members of the Indian cricket team being rested for the T20I series against England, the likes of Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma are likely to return to domestic cricket. This move comes after Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with several former cricketers reiterated on the importance to play domestic cricket.

Seeing this, while Virat Kohli and star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant were named in Delhi’s probable squad for the sixth round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma was also seen practicing with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad. Although, he was seen practicing, his participation in the domestic cricket tournament still remains under cloud.

Rohit Sharma doubtful for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match

An official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) informed that Rohit Sharma is yet to confirm his availability for Mumbai’s clash against Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled to kickstart from January 23 at Wankhede Stadium. If reports are to be believed, the selectors are expected to announce the squad in the coming days, and before that they will follow the standard procedure of confirming the availability of players.

"The selectors are expected to announce the squad on January 20, during which they will follow the due process of checking for the availability of every player. Rohit will also be approached around the time for selection," a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official told PTI. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma had a poor outing with the bat in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.

The 37-year-old scored 31 runs across three Tests, averaging 6.20. Rohit Sharma was absent after a couple of initial net sessions earlier this week, but was later spotted batting alongside Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane at the Wankhede Stadium. However, a confirmation on his availability is still awaited, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal confirmed his availability for the next round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 as he resumed batting session at the Bandra Kurla Complex Ground on Wednesday, January 16.
