Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has hailed India captain Rohit Sharma for changing the team’s batting frontier in white-ball formats of the sport. With India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Rohit entered record books as the only India captain to win two consecutive ICC trophies in limited-over formats. Following MS Dhoni, he has also become the second most successful captain for India when it comes to winning ICC tournaments. In the final of the competition against New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium, he flexed his muscle and produced a ferocious knock of 76 (83), which proved crucial for India’s four-wicket win.

Recognising Rohit’s captaincy efforts in white-ball cricket, Ashwin couldn’t abstain himself from commending the 37-year-old on his YouTube channel. CSK spin-bowling stalwart believes Rohit’s biggest accomplishment isn’t winning the couple of ICC trophies but reforming the way India plays in limited-over formats of the game. “Rohit’s biggest legacy is not about winning the tournaments. He has won five IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians. He has now led India to back-to-back ICC titles. That’s not his legacy. Rohit Sharma has changed the batting frontier of Indian white-ball cricket. That is his biggest legacy," remarked Ashwin.

Rohit and Ashwin will confront each other on March 23

Rohit and Aswhin will be seen playing against each other in the third game of IPL 2025 between CSK and MI to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 22. India captain will look to regain his IPL form in the upcoming tournament as he looked underwhelming for Mumbai in the last four seasons.

Ashwin, who became part of Chennai again for a hefty sum of INR 9.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction, will be forming a spin-bowling duo with Ravindra Jadeja, who was his colleague in Team India. Both MI and CSK couldn’t make it to the playoffs in 2024 but this time, they will be expected to play quality cricket and bring cheers to the supporters of their sides.
