Although the side lost some key batters in their second inning, as first inning centurions Steve Smith and Travis Head both could not get past the score of 34 and 18 respectively. Out of all the four wickets on Day 3, the one which really costed them was the one of vice-captain Steve Smith.

In a rare sight, the Aussie batter tried to slog it over mid-on against the delivery which was wide off, with Shardul Thakur running towards his right to complete the catch and provide a key breakthrough. After this crucial wicket, former India skipper Virat Kohli called this weird shot play of Smith as “rubbish”.

Steve Smith had earlier opened up on Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the ongoing World Test Championship Final. The Indian batter was dismissed at the score of 14 off 31 deliveries with a combined effort of Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc. After his dismissal, Smith in the post-day press conference said that Virat got a difficult ball to play,  and he couldn’t do much. “Virat got a very difficult ball, he couldn’t really do much there to be fair,” he quoted.
