The Indian Premier League, if you think about it is not everybody’s cup of tea. There are challenging moments, there are incredibly taxing moments and then there are moments with sort of crash your spirit internally. It takes a toll on your mind. That’s how difficult it is to succeed in the IPL and perhaps one of the teams which understood this quite clearly this time around in 2026, then it is the Mumbai Indians. For a batter of admirable skill, experience, match-winning experience at that, it wasn’t the Best of Times for a certain Surya Kumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians.

It was a bit of a sour experience and a bitter sweet ride. If you come to think about it where it comes to some of the key, exceptional players of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, one of which includes certainly a certain Surya Kumar Yadav.

Prior to entering the final contest that I played at the Wankhede, Sky as he’s famously called, had hit 270 runs in 13 matches, and that was that his batting average was dubious being well under 25 and the big knocks weren’t coming.

But there was something about Surya Kumar Yadav, the batter who finished the IPL in the closing stages. The way he did. In their last game against Rajasthan, Royals, which happened this last Sunday, the Mumbai team went down once again, but Sukumar Yadav played Talk of 60 or 42, perhaps signaling, the selector is a thing about him is still alive, thriving, and wanting to Roar at the international level.

It must be forgotten that it was under his able leadership that India won the T20 World Cup in 2026 earlier this year and in the very first match of that competition, Surya Kumar Yadav played a great innings against the USA team salvaging India from precarious situation. Is knock in the 80s was a much desperately sought side of relief at a time with the rest of the bats had completely faltered.

He has been playing T20 cricket for close to a decade and that’s precious experience. He still has shots all around the wicket. He’s unafraid to go attack the best of bowlers out there and he’s a rare player in that he can score at any position in the ground, finding the gaps and hitting over the ropes with glee.

Yes, he’s no spring chicken, but the kind of experience that he brings to the table, especially at a time where two of India’s foremost bats in the T20 Arena, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not around make Suri Kumar Yadav 2nd to na forget not that he has exceed in World Cup tournaments and several bilateral series contests.

So at a time, where some of the young guns of India are rising and need some guidance, think of Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and the likes - perhaps having an experience and in the team, someone who is audacious against the bowlers can put youngsters on a pedestal of comfort.

These are just some of the reasons why Suri Kumar Yadav must be persistent with where it comes to India’s international team for T20 contests and not done away with.
