The fifth round of the FA Cup is being held over the weekend and Manchester United are playing Fulham in their upcoming match. United manager Ruben Amorim spoke to the press ahead of his team’s game in the FA Cup. One of the topics of discussion during this conversation was the form of Harry Maguire and his possible selection in the England squad for the upcoming international break. Manchester United, who won their last game against Ipswich Town in a rather dramatic fashion, had Harry Maguire score the winning goal. The center-back scored a header from a corner kick in the 47th minute to put a 10-men United in a winning position of 3-2.
Amorim was asked whether the English national team should call up Harry Maguire or should he be taking rest. Amorim backed his player by saying, “His performance in the moment are quite good and you feel he is more a leader now that can help a national team. So I hope he’s in the national team in the next games.”
Can Maguire make a come-back into the national team?
The England national team is playing two matches in the upcoming international break in the third week of March. They will face Albania and Latvia in the World Cup Qualifier matches. Harry Maguire has been left out of the English national team for quite a while now. His last appearance for the national team was back in March 2024 in a friendly against Brazil. Since then, he has not been favoured to play for the English team.
While Harry Maguire has racked up some good performances at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, he will have to compete with the likes of John Stones, Erzi Konsa and Lewis Dunk for the center-back position in the England team. The former United captain has been an important part of Amorim’s three at the back formation, pairing up with Matthijs De Light to form the defensive pairing for the Red Devils.
