Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has pointed at a player who could open the innings for the Men in Blue in the limited-over series against West Indies. The former Mumbai batter expressed that Chennai Super King opener Ruturaj Gaikwad should open alongside Shikhar Dhawan as he has scored four centuries in five innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jaffer also believes Gaikwad’s addition could help create a left-right combination.

Before the start of the first ODI, Wasim Jaffer tweeted, "I think Ruturaj should make his ODI debut and open with Shikhar in the WI series. Ruturaj scored 4 tons in 5 inns in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, deserves a look in. Also, left-right combo stays."

Similarly, Wasim Jaffer had also addressed the fact that Indian batters need to face left-arm pacers as they have struggled against this type of bowling over years. Jaffer said, “Talking from India’s batting perspective, they need to improve how they play left-arm seamers. That has been a concern, including Trent Boult, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Reece Topley probably in the series.”

“That is one box they need to tick, where they are getting some Indian bowlers to bowl them in the nets. That has been a concern, when the ball gets old it’s fine but those bowlers have troubled the Indian batters. This is one area I feel Indian batters need to improve going forward," he continued.
