India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu secured her second Olympics medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu won the bronze medal in women's badminton singles after defeating He Bingjiao of China in the bronze medal match. It was Sindu's second Olympics medal as she had earlier won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also became the second Indian and first Indian woman to win consecutive Olympic medals. Everyone from the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sports minister Anurag Thakur congratulated the Indian shuttler for her achievement. However, as per PV Sindhu, her compatriot and senior badminton player Saina Nehwal did not extend any congratulatory message on this occasion.

In the virtual press conference a day after her win, Sindhu, when asked about her communication with Saina and Gopichand on her achievement, said that her ex-coach Pullela Gopichand congratulated her. However, she did not get any such gesture from Saina. “Of course, Gopi sir wished me congratulations. That's all. I haven't seen the social media. I am slowly replying to everybody,” said Sindhu. Gopi sir messaged me, Saina no. We don't talk much, so..” she further added.

Sindhu won the bronze medal match in two straight sets

PV Sindhu, after losing to Chinese Taipei Tai Tzu-Ying in the semifinals, came back stronger in the bronze medal match. Right from the first set, Sindhu dominated her opponent He Bingjiao. She took the first set 21-13 with some impressive smashes. Coming back in the second set, Bingjiao continued her struggle against the Indian and looked helpless on various occasions. Sindhu took the second set 21-15 and won her second Olympics medal.
